Have you always dreamt of being a journalist? Would you like to help the Cherry City Vegans Blog by writing some blog post? Do you have the 14th and 15th of October free to hang out at the Veg Fest?

We are looking for a volunteer to write about the Veg Fest prior to the weekend and then attend both days and writing a recap at the end of each day in exchange for free entry to both days.

If you are interested please email Steffi at for all the details!

So often in our community it seems like there is no place for us vegans to gather. Well on June 4th there are two separate events to go hang out and meet other like minded people. If you are new to the area or new to a veggie lifestyle both places will offer the opportunity to get to know our community better. Not new, well then it’s a great time to catch up with friends!

First up, starting at 1pm and running until 4pm is local farm sanctuary Green Acre’s 6 year anniversary open house celebration. If you have always told yourself that you want to get out and volunteer to help the animals this is the perfect opportunity. Both the humans and animals at Green Acre are lovely and the setting is beautiful. Plus it’s a great place family setting. There will be food and a raffle. Also if you are able donations are always nice to help maintain the Sanctuary!

Next up starting at 1:30pm is the second Vegan Dine Out being held at Marco Polo’s in Salem. Maybe you are looking for a smaller setting and are interested in good food and great conversation, then this might be the option for you. If you are interested in this event you will need to RSVP through the google group here or email the wonderful lady putting this all together, Norma at

FYI- you must have a Google account in order to join the Google Group and receive email updates on when the dine-outs will happen (first Sun. of every month). You can create one even if you’re using a different email provider. It doesn’t have to be a Gmail email. You can click here to make one. Or if you prefer, you can be manually added to the list/group if you contact Norma at
Can’t make this one? July’s is going to be held at Venti’s South and we will get you info as it gets closer.

Unfortunately, I work on the 4th and won’t have the opportunity to attend either event so I’ll need to live vicariously through you. Please take pictures and share either on the Cherry City Vegan Discussion group page or Our Instagram page. Don’t do social media? You could also email them to me directly at and I can share them for you!

Hello Cherry City Vegans! My name is Steffi DeRobertis. My husband, daughter, and I moved to Salem four years ago and Cherry City Vegans has been an invaluable resource for us. To return the favor I have signed up to help out on the website.

Hopefully you already know about the Facebook Cherry City Vegans page and the Discussion Group. If not, check them out. They are both great resources for local vegan things whether it’s dining out, shopping, volunteer work, activism and more. The discussion group is  also a great spot for meeting other vegans in our community.

The plan from here forward on the website is to be proactive about posting about meals out, with pictures and menus. Also to share information about up coming events. If you would like to share info about an experience you have had around town let me know!

My big question for all of you is what information you would like to find here? Please let me know in the comments below how I can best help you.

I look forward to sharing all things vegan in Salem!

A vegan new to Salem is starting a monthly vegan dine-out in the area to build community and show the restaurants that we’re a group they should take notice of.
The first one is Sunday, May 7 at 1:30pm at Marco Polo. If it takes off, they’ll be on the first Sunday of every month. She doesn’t do social media, though, so we’re helping to promote. If you want to go, join this Google Group so you can RSVP and you’ll then get the details directly. Feel free to share with other vegans you may know that aren’t on this forum.!forum/vegan-diners-salem-oregon

In case you were unaware, Salem has a completely vegan dining spot. It’s in West Salem and it’s called The Space Concert Club. The vegan chef responsible for the menu is local cookbook author Summer Keightley.

Back in February, Summer got together with butcher Derek Boaz and hosted a vegan dinner. Seems like an odd mix but all reviews I have heard were great. If you missed out don’t be sad because they are collaborating again on May 1st. Here is the info straight from the event page on Facebook.

Unfortunately I’ll be in Seattle for the event but I’d love to hear all about it. If you attend please post pictures to the discussion group on Facebook so that I can salivate from far away.

Thanks in advance!
